The Melbourne Tigers Junior Girls Club are pleased to announce the 1s coaches for each age group for the 2022/2023 VJBL Season.

Mason Gaze takes the reins for our under 12s next year and will be supported by current NBL1 athlete Layla Prince. Both coaches bring a wealth of interstate and international playing experience, as well as elite level playing experience in Victoria, with our NBL1 teams. As assistant coach of our under 12 1s in 2022, Mason’s influence and guidance was crucial to taking a last to qualify for VC team in February, to a National Classic Tournament qualifying team in June. The club are excited to have profound player role models in Mason and Layla to lead our under 12 age group next year, and have them help build the basketball skills and intellect of our newest Tigers.
The Tigers welcome Adrian Lewis as our Under 14 1s coach next year, who joins us from the Hawthorn Magic. Adrian’s passion for player and team development, combined with his high level coaching experience at Hawthorn, makes him a superlative candidate for the Under 14s.
Current NBL1 Women’s head coach Warrick Giddey returns to Juniors coaching next year taking our Under 16 1s, with the help of his old basketball friend Chris Ash. Wazza’s playing and coaching experience will be invaluable to our under 16 girls, who will also have the benefit of our NBL1 head coach guiding them to becoming elite senior players.
Ray Tomlinson will lead our Under 18s next year to support and drive success for our emerging senior players. The club are proud to have one of our club’s founding fathers committed to the success and development of our program. Ray’s teams are continuously the highest performing teams in VC and athletes only flourish from having him as a mentor. Ray will be assisted by Nyomi Cawen next year in a protege role.
