The Melbourne Tigers are pleased to announce the 1s Coaches for the 2023-24 VJBL season.
Director of Coaching Courtney Gaze is excited to work with an highly experienced and strong leadership group.
Matt Ferris joins the Tigers Girls as 12-1s Head Coach after a couple of years with the Tigers Boys program. Matt’s vast array of local and international playing and coaching experience will be invaluable to our under 12s program and our youngest competitors.
After a taking the 14-1s to National Club Championships in 2022 and a year of player development in 2023, Morgan Tolley returns to the 14-1s position to continue her work with our up and coming high performing athletes. Morgan’s incredible attention to detail and disciplined coaching approach will be crucial to offering our under 14s next year an opportunity to qualify for the National Junior Classic and National Club Championships.
Moving into the 16-1s role we welcome Ange Hendley-Boys. Ange over the many years at the club’s has arguably one of the highest player development success rates, with proof in the results of her 16-2s team this year who narrowly missed out on playing VC-Championship phase and will look to take out the VC-Reserve title.
Grant Francis will move into the 18-1s position next year in an important role to facilitate a pathway between our Junior program and our Big V and NBL1 Senior Program. After 2 years as an Assistant in the Club’s NBL1 program, Grant’s experience will be extremely beneficial for our under 18 athletes in their last year’s as juniors.
Currently assisting our Big V Youth Championship Women’s team and stepping in to help our 16-4s this year, Stewart Hooper will lead our under 20s group and support their development into Senior athletes.
We thank Mason Gaze, Adrian Lewis, Warrick Giddey our departing 1s coaches who move on to other pastures in 2023-24. No doubt we will see them around the stadiums and will welcome them back should they ever want to return! Kent Kavanagh our current under 20s coach will remain involved in the club in other roles.
