2023 Melbourne Tigers Senior Coaches

The Melbourne Tigers today announced the appointment of senior coaches for season 2023.

For the NBL1 Tigers Men’s team Andrew Gaze, assisted by Jay Lomer, will return to the helm.

The NBL1 Women’s team will also build with continuity with Wazza Giddey and assistant Grant Francis in charge. A new key appointment is Kaleb Sclater as senior assistant.

Tigers Rep Teams manager Chris Brooking commented, “Andrew and Jay created a very competitive team in 2022 with minimal resources. Everyone punched above their weight and with the support of our new association, the MCBA, there is strong optimism for 2023.”

“The Women’s program will be greatly strengthened by the introduction of Kaleb Sclater. He is one of the best young coaches in the country and we are confident he will make a powerful and immediate contribution.”

The Tigers Big V Youth Championship Men’s team will also be run by Gaze and Lomer, with another assistant to be appointed.

The Women’s Big V Youth Championship team will be head coached by Kaleb Sclater with an assistant about to be named.

Brooking went on to say, “We found real benefits in 2022 by combining key sessions with Youth League and NBL1 athletes. A youth policy was adopted, and this gave young athletes great opportunities to straddle both programs. Having continuity in coaching resources made this possible and we will continue with the model in 2023.”
