EMMETT NAAR SIGNS WITH MELBOURNE TIGERS

Emerging elite point guard, Emmett Naar, has signed with the Melbourne Tigers for the 2020 NBL1 season.  He joins the growing list of quality NBL athletes keen to ply their trade in the NBL1.

Naar is currently in the second year of a three-year contract with NBL team Illawarra Hawks. He played his junior basketball in Sydney and won a spot at the AIS from 2012-2013.  After representing Australia in the 2013 U19 Emus team, Emmett headed to St Mary’s College in California.  This division 1 US college is synonymous with recruiting and developing Australian athletes, including Daniel Kickert, Patty Mills, Jock Landale and Matthew Dellavedova.  In four years at St Mary’s, Naar broke Dellavedova’s all time assists record.

Tigers’ GM Chris Brooking said, “We have secured a fantastic point guard.  Emmett’s court vision, basketball smarts and team-first attitude will be wonderful for our program.  He will score and also make his teammates better players.  I could not be happier to sign him”.

Naar will also be joining a couple of old teammates, including Dane Pineau, with whom he played at St Mary’s.  “It’s like we are getting the band back together and they’re going to play some fantastic sets”, continued Brooking.

More player announcements are imminent as the Tigers’ roster continues to build.
