Mason Gaze signs on for 2024!

The Melbourne Tigers and the name Gaze are synonymous with each other, and we are thrilled to announce the resigning of Mason Gaze for the 2024 Season. Although still only 22 years old Mason has already established himself as one of the best young talents in the NBL1 South. As a Tigers Junior he has come up through the ranks of the Youth League and over the past few NBL1 Seasons has cemented that starting small forward role where he averaged 11.9ppg, 2.6apg & 5.2rpg last season.

In 2023 it was not only a successful NBL1 Season for Mason, but he also led the Melbourne Tigers Youth Championship division team to a Championship at the same time. An athletic 6’7” wing, Mason can shoot from deep with his quick release allowing him to comfortably shoot over defenders. While the ability to read the unfolding plays in front of him at both ends enables Mason to have an impact upon the game both offensively and defensively. With the continued work that he has been putting in over the off season we can expect to see his growth as a player this coming season. Mason’s versatility is one of his greatest strengths with the ability to play and guard multiple positions and in fact last season we saw him spending time at every position 1 through 5.

“It’s fantastic to have Mason recommit for another season, he’s such a vital player to what we are establishing here at the Tigers with this young talented core that we see growing and maturing together as a team. His IQ and ability to see the court and read the play is what stands out most to me, add to that his ability to shoot the ball at a high clip makes him one of the best young talents in the League. He’s a player to keep an eye on as a future star in the NBL1” – Jay Lomer A/Coach

Mason commented: “I’m super excited to be playing this season with a great group of players and staff. From playing tiny tigers all the way through juniors, and into the senior program, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given to represent this club at our highest level. I am keen for the season to start and make a run to play finals basketball. Go Tigers!”

With a firm view of player development, the Tigers continue to add pieces around this young group that will compliment, support, and lead them through their development providing players like Mason the opportunity for sustained personal and team success.
