MELBOURNE TIGERS COMPLETE NBL1 ROSTER

The Melbourne Tigers have put the ‘cherry on the top’ of their 2020 NBL1 South roster by signing three returning Tiger athletes.

Billy ‘The Kid’ Hughes returns to the Tigers from La Trobe City, following a season in the Big V. Previously, Billy played in the SEABL for the Tigers and as a quick guard will be an impact player off the bench, with savvy playmaking and the ability to hurt teams from behind the three-point line.

The Tigers have also re-signed Daniel Kinkela and Van Merbin. Kinkela, a powerful 203cm centre, gave solid service off the bench with strong rebounding and defence last year.  In 2019, Merbin contested manfully as a back-up to Dane Pineau, often battling much taller opponents. He shot at 46% from behind the arc and often stretched the defence.

GM Chris Brooking commented, “These are the final pieces of our 2020 puzzle. Coach Brad Pineau has done a great job recruiting a powerful, deep and exciting roster. We’re all looking forward to getting this group together and seeing what they can do”.

The Tigers stage their first home game at MSAC on Sunday 19th April.
