Sammy Simons Returns in 2024!

The Melbourne Tigers are thrilled to announce that star, Samantha (Sammy) Simons is returning for the 2024 Women’s NBL1 South season.

Sammy joined the Tigers last season from the Adelaide Lightning in the WNBL and the Forestville Eagles in the NBL1 Central where she won the 2022 MVP. Sammy has shown she is able to play at high levels being a product of the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence and representing Australia at numerous junior international events.

Sammy quickly became a leader amongst the young Tigers squad and a fan favourite. Sammy was the leading scorer for the Tigers in 2023 finishing the season putting up 17ppg 4.1rbpg, 3apg, 1.1stpg shooting at 33.1% from beyond the arc. Sammy showed her ability to score on the rim, from mid-range and from beyond the arc and regularly hit big shots at critical times during the season.

Coach Kaleb Sclater said ,

“I’m pumped that Sammy is returning for next season, she was great for us, on and off the court. Sammy showed she is an elite level scorer, but I think what she proved last year is she as a high basketball IQ and that’s something I’ll lean on this year.
One thing that I learned about Sammy last year is, she has great leadership qualities. Sammy constantly helped the younger players, led by example and was a positive player in the group and I can’t wait to see her continue to do this next season”.

“I am extremely excited to be back at Melbourne this year under the guidance of Kaleb. I’m looking forward to improving from our season last year and can’t wait to be back on court with the girls. Go the Tiges”.

More roster announcements will be happening over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.
