Welcome Steph Blicavs

The Melbourne Tigers are excited to announce the signing of former Australian Opal Steph Blicavs.

Steph is the sister in-law of newly acquired Tiger, Sara Blicavs and has had an incredible career of her own. Steph had a 15 year WNBL career playing for Dandenong Rangers Adelaide Lightning, Townsville Fire and the Southside Flyers, where she won 3 WNBL championships and was recognised as one of the best shooters in the league. Steph represented Australia at multiple international events winning a Commonwealth Games gold medal and an Asia Cup silver medal.

In more recent years Steph has stepped away from the WNBL to focus on being a mum to her son Arlo and daughter Etta whilst continuing playing NBL1 for the Casey Cavaliers. Last season Steph put up 10ppg 5rbpg 2.5apg 1stpg shooting at 37% from beyond the arc. Steph will make a big impact on the Tigers squad looking to get back to the playoffs and we can’t wait to have Steph, her husband Kris, and children Arlo and Etta be a part of the Tigers family in 2024.

Coach Kaleb Sclater said “I’m pumped to have Steph join us this season, she is a great person and really fits who we are trying to bring to the club. Steph will bring some real leadership which is invaluable to a team. Her experience and the way she knows how to win will be great for us.

Steph is a fantastic defender and an elite shooter, so the Tigers fans will love seeing her get up as many 3’s as she can next year and will be fun watching her run around with Sara again”.

Steph said “I am excited to be joining the Melbourne Tigers next season, it is going to be great to play with Sara again and to be in enjoyable environment with her will be fun. Kaleb is putting together a great group, and I am really keen to get started and see what we can achieve”.

Keep your eyes peeled for more Tigers NBL1 Women’s roster updates in the next few weeks. We encourage everyone get down to MSAC round 1 and give Steph and her family a big Tigers welcome.
